I'm working on my secondary education credential with an endorsement in mathematics. I'm passionate about using my computer science background within my future mathematics classroom. I believe the future of this country depends on creating technologically literate students who do not solely use technology, but have the ability to create technology. I'm the mother to 2 young girls who started learning the basics of coding at 3 years old (Robot Turtles, anyone?). Follow me on Twitter @MBackmeg

Our Practice "Baby"

Monday, August 31, 2009

Nathan and I have been collecting a few baby items here and there over the past few weeks. Erin and Forrest gave us the Moby wrap we wanted when we were in Seattle. Of course we had to try it out asap. I soon realized that wrapping it around myself is easy, the difficult thing will be positioning the baby correctly. After practicing with a teddy bear, I decided the bear wasn't quite heavy enough to simulate a real baby. I started looking around the room for something in the 9-10lb range and spotted the perfect thing...

I now feel comfortable putting a newborn in the Moby knowing she will be secure.

Nathan and I finally picked out a stroller/infant carrier travel system and I picked it up this weekend. When the cats saw the stroller for the first time, they assumed it was a vacuum, starting hissing at it and ran to hide under the bed. We thought if we kept the stroller in the family room long enough they'd get used to it and realize it's not a vacuum and doesn't make noise. Judging by this next picture, I think our plan worked! Dorothy did not climb in here on her own free will, but she did stay long enough for us to take her on a few trips around the family room.

We are very lucky to have our own practice "baby" on hand who is so willing to help us learn to be parents. Although I have a feeling she may run and hide when I bring home the first round of cloth diapers. I may be pushing my luck with those...

First of all, the cat in the moby is adorable.

Second of all, I want to know the stroller brand. (I have a strange stroller fascination.) :)
